Frequently Asked Questions

What is fractionated resurfacing?

Fractionated resurfacing is an advanced skin care procedure available at Texas Skin Center. The procedure uses a fractional laser to beam light into your skin, which becomes heat. The heat coagulates slender columns of skin and tissue, causing a healing response to occur. The new tissue that appears after fractionated resurfacing is healthy and rejuvenated, offering you a fresh appearance with fewer marks, scars, and blemishes. Dr. Sedrak typically recommends getting a series of fractionated resurfacing treatments over the course of 1-4 weeks for the best possible result. After each fractionated resurfacing treatment at Texas Skin Center, you’re free to go home and continue your day as usual. You might experience some redness and warmth from your skin as well as a feeling of tightness. To keep this to a minimum, you should be cautious about exposing your skin to the sun for at least four weeks after your treatment.
Fractionated resurfacing offers your skin an extensive list of benefits. You’ll see smoother, clearer skin in a matter of days after your treatment, and it only gets better as it continues to heal. Fractional resurfacing can minimize or eliminate:
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Small scars
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Dark spots
  • Stretch marks
During your consultation, you can tell Dr. Sedrak which areas you’d like to target with fractionated resurfacing. Even though the face is the most popular targeted area, you don’t have to restrict the treatment to your face alone. You can improve the skin on your hands, arms, neck, and chest, too.
At Texas Skin Center, Dr. Sedrak advises you to follow an easy set of instructions to prepare for your fractionated resurfacing treatments. To minimize your risk for complications and side effects related to the procedure, you should:
  • Wear sunscreen for four weeks in advance
  • Avoid sunlight and tanning beds as much as possible
  • Avoid chemical treatments and other laser treatments for at least four weeks
  • Address and treat any viral flare-ups (e.g., herpes, shingles)
Following these instructions can help you avoid or minimize side effects like scabbing and peeling as your skin heals from fractionated resurfacing.
